Engage in ongoing professional growth and leadership.

The best educators are learners.  I will forever be inspired and encouraged by relationships with outstanding educators.  Professional development is key to continuing to engage students year after year.  Stepping into leadership roles is a way of investing in your learning community taking ownership of the mission and vision of your community.

Level 1: Knowledge of current research

  1. This document is a review of a Professional Learning Network called Delicious.  It is a tool I use myself because of this investigation.  I appreciate how it gives multiple ways to organize information.  This artifact demonstrates growing knowledge about how to create sustainable professional growth experiences for myself. PLN for professional development
  2. This artifact is a completed assignment where the task was to find two definitions of the term PLN and reflect upon the findings.  It is included here because it portrays a deepening understanding of different modes of professional development afforded by the digital age. Defining PLN

This artifact is a screenshot of a professional development opportunity I hope to attend in September of 2018.  It is the 13th International Conference and Exhibition of ICT for Education, Training and Skills Development.  It represents the cutting edge of research on education and the use of technology education in Africa.

Level 2: Application

  1. This file gives directions to and description of an example PLN.  Since choosing to use this account as a portfolio piece, I have create a new personal PLN and retained this example as evidence of application of knowledge regarding professional development. PLN example
  2. This document is a teacher training that was conducted in Kenya prior to the commencement of the third term of 2018.  It demonstrates an application of knowledge gained in the pursuit of this degree and valuing the importance of professional development. Valley Term 3 Training 2018

This artifact is a photo is from a teacher training I conducted in Kenya, the topic of which was Bloom’s Taxonomy.  The activity illustrated is a verb-sort into different categories of the Taxonomy. It demonstrates an application of professional development and leadership as it illustrates teachers learning and engaging with educational tools previously unknown. IMG_0264

Level 3: Research, innovation, leadership

  1. This artifact is simply a calendar of professional development planned and delivered by myself to our staff of teachers in Kisii, Kenya.  It reflects the ongoing plan of mentoring and encouraging teachers in the developing world.  It demonstrates leadership in establishing a program of professional development for others.  July Valley Schedule
  2. This project proposal was created for stakeholders of Oasis for Orphans.  It is the plan for our new school project and was researched and drafted by myself.  It represents my leadership in the organization as the vision setter and implementor of our educational goals. SHS New
